Arzu Kaplan

Arzu Kaplan is a Turkish artist whose practice bridges the traditional arts of ebru (paper marbling) and kat’ı (paper cutting), reinterpreting classical Ottoman techniques within a contemporary framework. Drawing on her background in history and traditional arts, she approaches creation as both preservation and renewal, an act of cultural memory carried through color, form, and movement. For Kaplan, marbling is not merely a decorative craft but a meditative process that reflects the rhythm of nature and the transience of beauty.

Since beginning her artistic journey in 2009, she has developed a body of work that blends meticulous craftsmanship with conceptual depth. Her compositions weave fluid patterns of pigment and water into intricate layers of narrative and symbolism, translating centuries-old techniques into living expressions of continuity and devotion. Kaplan has exhibited widely across Turkey and has been recognized nationally, including by the Ministry of Culture’s 21st Turkish Decorative Arts Award. Her work invites viewers to witness how tradition evolves and flows gracefully between heritage and the future.
